Do you want to be in an engaging and supportive culture? At Whiskey River, we value questions, we carry textbooks, and we seek information beyond what is already known. We try. We create. We learn. And we move forward every day.
We are Whiskey River Large Animal. Our approach to animals and clients comes from a place of deep love and respect. Modern medicine is combined with natural horsemanship views and integrative therapies for a full scope large animal health model. A mobile large animal practice in the mountains of Western North Carolina, we combine technology and dedication to provide the very best care we possibly can. Our patients range from horses and cattle to goats, sheep, camelids and chickens. Also, pigs, bears, primates and large cats get thrown in too. We currently offer digital x-ray, ultrasound, power dentistry, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Acupuncture and Herbals, Veterinary Spinal Adjustment, sinoscopy, and field surgery, as well as emergency and routine care.
Do you love mountain scenery? Is a sense of community something that burns inside you? Do you crave adventure? We've climbed mountains, crossed rivers, and braved snowdrifts to reach our patients. We've lent trailers, hauled trailers, and have even ridden in the back of trailers, because the patient mattered.
Do you prefer a team approach to health and wellness, gathering information from numerous inputs for the betterment of the patient? Do you want to make client education fun, something that'll stick with them? Do you want to make a real difference and feel what it means to be a part of the "15%"?
We are part Macgyver, part mother earth. A little sensei, a bit True Grit. We are colic tubes and herbs, firehoses and prayers. We are emergencies, rehab, and annual wellness, but we are so much more than routine.
We are growth minded. Future plans include a haul-in facility for small surgeries, hospitalization, breeding and educational events. Young or newer staff are offered mentorship, and are also welcome to bring new concepts to the table. We are looking for an associate who wants to practice with enthusiasm and delight each day. Someone who's cool with rainy days, sunny days, muddy coats, and stinky goats. And we are looking to hire in the next few months! Or sooner, if you're that cool!
Experience matters, but not as much as gumption and drive. Pay scales will be mostly commission-based, but negotiable. Newer grads would be welcome to having a short shadowing period. Truck, box and supplies would be provided, Scheduling is flexible, full or part-time. Shared on-call. And RESPECTED time off.
Come check us out! Set a spell! Multi-day or two-week ride-along externships/interviews are preferred. The mountains are awesome! A small town community with family as its backbone. The Appalachian Trail is IN OUR BACKYARD! Lake life and trout fishing abound. Rafting, history, mining, its all here! Small music scene, BIG craft brewery scene! Cool streets and good eats, just a jaunt over the hill.
We'd love to meet you! Send your letter and resume to whiskeyriverLA@gmail.com
